Privacy
The short version: I collect what you type into the contact form so I can reply to you, and I measure whether my ads work. That's it. Here's the detail, in plain English.
Who I am
I'm Louis Wharmby, a freelance web developer based in Folkestone, Kent. This site is mine and I'm the person responsible for any data it handles. You can reach me any time at hello@louiswharmby.com.
The contact form
When you send the contact form, your name, email address and message are emailed to me so I can reply. That's the only place they go: no mailing lists, no marketing emails, never sold or shared. If you'd like anything you've sent me deleted, email me and it's done.
Ad measurement (Google)
I run Google search ads, and I use Google's measurement tag to learn which ads bring people here. If you arrive from an ad and later send the contact form, Google records that the ad led to an enquiry. As part of that, a scrambled (hashed) version of the email you typed may be sent to Google to make the measurement more accurate; Google cannot read the address itself and I don't use it for anything else.
Cookies for this are off by default. The banner you see on your first visit asks whether you're OK with a measurement cookie: choose "No thanks" and no cookie is set (measurement then happens in aggregate, without identifying your browser). To change your choice later, clear this site's data in your browser and the banner will ask again.
Anonymous visit stats
The site records anonymous, cookie-free page view counts (via Vercel Analytics) so I can see which pages people find useful. It can't identify you.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask me what data I hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk) if you think I've handled it badly. In practice: email me and I'll sort it, usually the same day.
